My Dog Hated This At First. Seriously.
Okay, so let’s talk about the Kriath Collagen Glucosamine Chondroitin Liquid Drops. Yeah, that mouthful. I bought these drops for my old boy, Buster. He’s a handsome, slightly grumpy Labrador mix, pushing ten, and lately, his morning stretches have sounded like a creaky old ship. I’m talking grunts, groans, and a general air of “why must I move?” So, naturally, I’m always on the hunt for something to make his golden years a little less stiff.
I saw these drops online, read the description – collagen, glucosamine, chondroitin, all the good stuff for joints, skin, and coat. Liquid form, they said. “Easy to administer,” they promised. My naive brain thought, “Brilliant! No more crushing pills, no more hiding giant tablets in cheese.” Honestly? My first impression was terrible. The bottle arrived, looked fine, nothing fancy. But then came the initial attempt to actually get this stuff into Buster. I mixed the recommended amount into his dinner. He sniffed it. Gave me a look that clearly said, “Are you trying to poison me?” And then he ate meticulously around every single bit of food that might have touched the drops. He’s a professional food-avoider, that one.
I was THIS close to returning it. A few days of this charade, this daily battle of wills where I’d try to sneak it in, and he’d outsmart me every single time. I even tried squirting it directly into his mouth, which resulted in a frothy, drool-filled protest and half the dose decorating my kitchen floor. What a waste of money, I thought. My dog was still doing his old-man shuffle, and now I had a half-used bottle of something he clearly despised. I just couldn’t believe how difficult it was. I was seriously frustrated, convinced I’d been duped by another “easy solution” that was anything but.

The Moment I Almost Gave Up (But Didn’t)
I’m not gonna lie, I put the bottle in the back of the cupboard for a good week. Every time I saw it, I just sighed. But I also hate wasting money more than I hate a stubborn dog, apparently. So, one evening, feeling particularly guilty about Buster’s stiffness, I decided to give it one last, desperate shot. My method? Extreme stealth. Instead of mixing it with his entire meal, I took a tiny dollop of plain yogurt (his absolute weakness), mixed the drops into that, and then quickly, before he could process what was happening, spoon-fed it to him. He swallowed it before his brain registered the alien taste. Success! A tiny, momentary victory. I decided I’d try this yogurt trick every day for another week. If it didn’t work, then the bottle was officially destined for the trash.
And Then… The Grudging Acceptance
And then, something totally unexpected started to happen. It wasn’t like a sudden miracle. Not at all. But slowly, subtly, I started noticing things. Buster’s morning stretch wasn’t quite as dramatic. He still groaned, sure, he’s an old man, but it was less of a “my body is failing me” groan and more of a “ugh, fine, I’m awake” groan. He started getting up a little quicker from his naps. During our walks, which had become more of a leisurely stroll, he actually picked up a bit of a trot sometimes, especially if he smelled something interesting. His tail had a bit more wag to it, too.
I hate to admit it, but these stupid, initially-hated drops were actually working. Not just for his joints either. His coat, which usually looks a bit dull, started getting this sheen to it. Like he’d been to some fancy dog groomer, not just rolled in the mud. And his nails? They seemed stronger, less prone to chipping. I was stress-eating chips on the couch, watching a terrible reality show, when I noticed him jump onto the sofa without struggling. That’s when I knew. This stuff, despite the initial drama, was doing something good for him. I honestly don’t know why his palate suddenly became more tolerant, or if the yogurt just masks it perfectly, but the difference in his mobility and general perkiness is undeniable.
It wasn’t an instant fix, that’s for sure. It required a daily commitment to the yogurt trick and a fair bit of patience. But seeing him move with a little more ease, seeing that spark back in his eyes, it makes the initial wrestling matches seem… almost worth it. Almost. All those fancy ingredients, the collagen, the glucosamine, the chondroitin – they really do seem to be making a difference from the inside out. He’s still a picky eater, and I’m still a sneaky dog parent, but the results are hard to argue with.
So, Would I Repurchase?
Ugh. Yes. Dammit, yes, I would repurchase the Kriath Collagen Glucosamine Chondroitin Liquid Drops. Do I love the process of administering them? Absolutely not. Will Buster ever willingly take them? Probably not in this lifetime. But the improvements in his joint comfort, his energy levels, and even his coat health are too significant to ignore. It’s not perfect, and it certainly wasn’t an easy start, but for my furry old man, seeing him comfortable and happy is what matters most. He’s got a little more pep in his step, and that’s worth all the sneaky yogurt and the occasional drool-splatter.
If you want to try it yourself, here’s where I got mine.
